How to install wordpress on your website in less than 5 minutes

There are several methods of installing Wordpress, method one is to purchase your domain from a host that offers one click Wordpress installation such as bluehost. If you have already got your domain from another host such as one.com then you will need to install Wordpress manually either by following the instructions on the Wordpress site or by using a service I found called simplescripts , which works really well. SimpleScripts also allows you to install Wordpress from scratch using just your iPad, which is not possible via the manual install method, without first downloading and uploading the required files to your domain server. SimpleScripts does all this for you at the click of a button, all you need to do is provide it with your domain and sql database details.

Please note if you haven't registered your domain and you are going to sign up to one.com, using the links on this page will give you an extra 3gb of space on top of the standard amounts you get for free. i.e. the basic package gives 5gb, you will get 8gb using this link for no extra charge! one.com (including 3gb extra storage free)

What do you need?
Before you can do anything you need to get you FTP address and password as well as you SQL username, password and table name. If you are using one.com then they send you all this in an email which looks something like below. The database and username is normally part of your URL with _ instead of . and the password will be whatever it says. If you have lost this email like I had just use the online chat and they will send you it again!

Installing Wordpress using simplescripts
Simple scripts is available for free if you just want to install one instance of Wordpress but there is a paid version which isn't much that allows you unlimited installs and upgrades. Also it does not just offer Wordpress installation but loads of stuff for all aspects of web page development including php forums, security and payment functionality which may be of use to you. I decide it worked well and was useful enough to pay the $9 a year, especially as I currently only have a iPad so is really my only option for installing Wordpress!

Just to confirm in the following example I am using one.com as my hosting provider as this is the provider sapdev is hosted with and am going to demonstrate how I installed Wordpress on sapdev.co.uk. Once I had gathered all the required login details it took less than 5 mins, by which time I had a fully working Wordpress installation.

Step 1 - Create a simple scripts account and login
Basically just go to www.simplescripts.com and create a free account and then login.

Step 2 - Selecting Wordpress script
Once logged in you will see all the scripts that are available for installation, simply click in the Wordpress entry.

Step 3 - Input your FTP and SQL information
You will now be on the install Wordpress page but before you hit the install button you need to click on the 'I need to update my FTP information' link and enter you details.

Once you have entered this press the update button and everything should verify ok!

Step 4 - Install Wordpress
You should now have been returned to the installation page and is time to press the install button.

Step 5 - Enter installation details
You will now be asked where you want Wordpress to be installed, this can be your route URL or within a folder of your choice. I first entered /Blog as my folder, Note the capital B which is not what I wanted and to move it to /blog I had to delete the installation and redo it, so be carefully what you enter!

Now enter a title for your blog, you can update this later via the blogs control/ Admin panel.

You can also enter an admin username and password of our choice, this is what you will use to login to your blogs control panel.

Next enter your SQL database details, with one.com they automatically create you an SQL database with a similar name to your URL and provide details and password within the sign up email they send you!

Finally check the box of any of the plugins offered you want to install along with the terms and conditions checkbox and press complete.

Step 6 - Watching Wordpress install
You will now be presented with a % complete bar showing the progress of your installation.

Step 7 - All done
When it reaches 100% that's it all done and you will be presented with a link to your blog and a link to your blogs admin panel! Enjoy!!

See here for my blog as it stands now sapdev blog. All i have done extra to the above is go into the admin page and change the theme.
